Windows 7 First Impressions

I upgraded my PC from Windows XP to Windows 7 not really knowing what to expect, after the joys of Vista I hoped that Microsoft would have made sure the Windows 7 would be a stable and functional Operating System. I play a lot of games and I also use my computer a lot as I am a student of electronics so it was important that I would have minimal problems with reliability ( I know that people will be screaming get a Mac!)

Anyway I took advantage of the Windows 7 student offer of 7 Home Upgrade for £30 saving me a fair bit of cash! This is always a good thing for a poor student like myself.

Opting for a clean install of windows for maximum space and performance of my PC (well at least for the first few weeks anyway) I formatted XP and reinstalled it the put SP3 on then began the installation of Windows 7. The Installation itself was very easy as simple as following the onscreen instructions, it took about 40 minutes to complete with a couple restarts in between but when it was done I was impressed with the speed of the start up and the look and feel of it.

In appearance it is similar to Vista which I like and Vista features are the same if not slightly improved and working! There have been no compatibility issues as of yet, and it plays all the games I want quite happily. It is also very easy to connect to Your PS3 or Xbox or anything you want to connect to, I currently have a film streaming from my PC to my PS3 Downstairs and it was done very easily.

One of the many complaints of Vista was that it was a system hog which was very true. Windows 7 has clearly been optimized so that it uses fewer resources, but it does still require a lot more than XP.

From my experience of Windows 7 has so far been a good one and I have been running it for about 2 months now without incident so my first impressions have been very good. I have also installed Win 7 on a few other computers without problem. I would recommend Windows 7 very highly to anyone who is currently running Vista (because Vista is rubbish) and to people who are getting bored of XP.

Wood also gets scratched easily – and scratches are ideal homes for all kinds of stink and-or semi lethal bacteria. Having a wooden worktop is a recipe for food poisoning. HALL Histopathology – Volume 21, Issue 4, pages 331334, October 1992. Here is an excerpt: The p53 tumour suppressor gene has been shown to be frequently mutated in a wide range of human neoplasms. This is accompanied by increased levels of p53 protein which become immunologically detectable in pathological material. We have investigated the possibility that the differential diagnosis between reactive and neoplastic mesothelium might be resolved using a polyclonal serum raised to human p53 protein, CM-1. None of 20 cases of reactive mesothelial proliferation showed p53 immunoreactivity while 70% (14 of 20) of cases of malignant mesothelioma showed p53 staining. We can thus infer that abnormalities of p53 appear to be a common event in malignant mesothelioma and that p53 immunostaining may be of value in the distinction of malignant mesothelioma from reactive hyperplasia.

Another interesting study is called, Multicenter trial of neo-adjuvant chemotherapy followed by extrapleural pneumonectomy in malignant pleural Mesothelioma by W Weder, RA Stahel,, J Bernhard, S Bodis, P Vogt, P Ballabeni, D Lardinois, D Betticher, R Schmid, R Stupp, HB Ris, M Jermann, W Mingrone, AD Roth and A Spiliopoulos Here is an excerpt: Abstract – Background: The aim of this multicenter trial was to prospectively evaluate neo-adjuvant chemotherapy followed by extrapleural pneumonectomy (EPP) and radiotherapy, including quality of life as outcome. Patients and methods: Eligible patients had malignant pleural mesothelioma of all histological types, World Health Organization performance status of zero to two and clinical stage T1T3, N02, M0 disease considered completely resectable. Neo-adjuvant chemotherapy consisted of three cycles of cisplatin and gemcitabine followed by EPP. Postoperative radiotherapy was considered for all patients. Results: In all, 58 of 61 patients completed three cycles of neo-adjuvant chemotherapy. Forty-five patients (74%) underwent EPP and in 37 patients (61%) the resection was complete. Postoperative radiotherapy was initiated in 36 patients. The median survival of all patients was 19.8 months [95% confidence interval (CI) 14.624.5]. For the 45 patients undergoing EPP, the median survival was 23 months (95% CI 16.632.9). Psychological distress showed minor variations over time with distress above the cut-off score indicating no morbidity with 82% (N = 36) at baseline and 76% (N = 26) at 3 months after surgery (P = 0.5). Conclusions: The observed rate of operability is promising. A median survival of 23 months for patients undergoing EPP compares favourably with the survival reported from single center studies of upfront surgery. This approach was not associated with an increase in psychological distress.

Another interesting study is called, The role of gemcitabine in the treatment of malignant Mesothelioma by Hedy Lee Kindler, Jan.P. van Meerbeeck – Volume 29, Issue 1, Pages 70-76 (February 2002). Here is an excerpt: ABSTRACT – Gemcitabine is broadly active in a variety of solid tumors, including malignant mesothelioma. In vitro, gemcitabine demonstrates activity against mesothelioma cell lines. The role of single-agent gemcitabine in patients with mesothelioma is unclear, since three phase II trials treated a total of 60 patients and achieved response rates of 0%, 7%, and 31%. The combination of gemcitabine and cisplatin is synergistic against mesothelioma cell lines in vitro. Gemcitabine in combination with cisplatin or carboplatin shows definite activity in phase II trials. The trial by Byrne and colleagues that demonstrated a response rate of 48% established the combination of gemcitabine plus cisplatin as a standard therapy for this disease in the United States. Subsequent multicenter trials have achieved lower response rates of 26% and 16% for this combination. Gemcitabine plus carboplatin also has activity. Future roles for gemcitabine in malignant mesothelioma patients include incorporating a gemcitabine/platinum regimen for neoadjuvant or adjuvant therapy, combining it with other cytotoxic chemotherapy agents such as pemetrexed or vinorelbine, or adding novel cytostatic agents such as the vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) inhibitor, bevacizumab, to the gemcitabine and platinating agent combination. In fact, when I first launched my eBook, I didn’t even have a sales page — I just linked directly to my eJunkie marketplace listing.

PayPal account that accepts credit cards. You can have two PayPal accounts, a personal and an upgraded one, and I reccomend having and using both. For receiving eBook payments, use your upgraded PayPal account so that buyers can pay via credit card.

Web Hosting. While I reccomend Site Build It for larger, in depth-websites on your niche topic, HostGator is tops for mini-sites, ebook sales pages and the like. I use Hostator to host my eHow eBook sales page.

Sales page templates or graphics. If you don’t have much graphics experience or time to learn graphic manipulation as you build your sales page, you might want to use a basic ebook sales page template.

Sales letter/ sales page text. The information you include on your sales page is what compels people to buy your eBook. Start your sales pitch by addressing a problem. Perhaps your audience is tired of writing articles for content companies that then sell their work at a huge profit. Talk about this. Then, show them the solution: your ebook details the simple method for finding direct clients who pay for website content articles. Include a few real testimonials from those who previewed your book, and let readers know what is in your book (the table of contents is great for this). Include a purchase link 1-3 times on the sales page.

Marketing eBooks Successfully

Once you have all of the neccesary elements in place, it’s time for the fun (and sales!) to begin. Use a combination or, ideally, all of the following methods to ensure a successful marketing campaign.

Good affiliate program. Currently, about 15% of my ebook sales are generated by my affiliate team. For many ebook authors, that number will be considerably higher. Pay your affiliates at least 50% of the sales price as their commission — this is industry standard and not something to be cheap about (I learned this well into my ebook sales campaign, but now I know).

Blog about your ebook. If you have a large following, you can do a high-profile launch of your ebook and ebook affiliate program. You can coordinate with any affilaites you’ve contacted pre-launch to have them blog about it on the same day. If your blog is still small, your launch won’t be as huge, but it’s still important.

Social media communities such as Facebook, MySpace and Twitter are good ways to get the word out about your ebook. (I’m WriterGig on Twitter if you want to follow me.) Don’t be annoying, but do let your friends and fellow members know about your great product.

Related articles. Sites such as eHow, Bukisa, HubPages, Xomba, Associated Content and Squidoo allow user-submitted content and some form of links. Choose a couple of these sites to write articles related to the content in your eBook, and then link to your sales page.
